This year’s 42nd Annual Bob Wills Day celebration is just around the corner. Now that April is here volunteers of the Bob Wills Foundation in Turkey, Texas, are busy preparing for the big event.
This year the Turkey Lion’s Club is no different; they are planning a full week of events for our many visitors. This year the Lion’s Club will be introducing several new events. All proceeds from these events will benefit Turkey’s Downtown Revitalization project and the Turkey Lion’s Club.
Wednesday, April 24th from 2-4 p.m., a Gospel Music Jubilee will be held at the old the Bob Wills Center/Turkey High School cafeteria with dinner immediately following for $8. You can enjoy barbeque sandwiches with chips, or chili and cornbread. Dessert will also be included.
Thursday, April 25th Turkey Lion’s Club will be hosting a Catfish Dinner at 5 p.m., in the the Bob Wills Center/Turkey High School cafeteria. For $12 you will get to enjoy catfish, coleslaw, pinto beans, fries, hush puppies, and cobbler. This will be a great start to a night of dancin’.
This years Thursday Night Dance, the Bob Wills Foundation is excited to present a compliation of great Western Swing performers. Joe Settlemires, Bobby Koefer, Jimmy Young, Jason Roberts, Wayne Glassen, Curtis Hays, Lee Barlow, Lisa Fruit and Jimmy Burson. The dance will be held in the Turkey High School from 8–11 p.m., Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
Don’t forget about Billy Mata and the Friends of the Texas Playboys Dance and Jake Hooker and the Outsiders Friday night, April 26th. The dancing will begin at 5:30 and last until midnight. Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
For all you early risers on Friday and Saturday, April 26th and 27th, the traditional Lion’s Club breakfast will be held at the Bob Wills Center/Turkey High School cafeteria for $7. Friday breakfast will be served from 7-9:30 a.m. and the Lion’s Club will be serving pancakes with all the fixings. Saturday’s breakfast is from 7-9:00 a.m., come enjoy biscuits and gravy before the downtown parade at 10 a.m.
Following the parade don’t forget to visit all of our booths and local merchants in Turkey. Vendors will be setup outside the Turkey High School Friday and Saturday. Make sure to stop by and enjoy our recently remodeled museum. The Museum will also be open all week with live music Friday and Saturday.
At 2:30 come take a break at the old football field and enjoy a free outdoor concert. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy music by some of the original Texas Playboys, and Dr. Charles Townsend as Master of Ceremonies.
Saturday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys will be returning and the South Plains College Western Swing band will be kicking off the dance. Tickets will be available at the door for $15.
