Texas Buffalo Soldier Living History Encampment

Step back into the early life and times on Texas' far western frontier! Join in a variety of events throughout the weekend celebrating Cochran County's western frontier heritage including touring an authentic Texas Buffalo Soldier camp and cheering on your favorite team at a free vintage baseball game with the Buffalo Soldiers vs. "I Beat Pete" Christy-KCBD-TV team Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at the Morton ISD field. On Saturday follow the crowds to a downtown parade in Morton featuring a kids' "Decorate Your Bike" Contest and "Love My Ride" Car Show, floats, antique tractors, motorcycles & ATVs, and horseback riders, followed by a car burn-out contest. Then come to the county park to enjoy a talent show highlighting local musicians, Buffalo Soldier and Native American history, a brisket cookoff to benefit MYR KIDS young riders organization, young ladies' prairie tea, a fantastic car show, summer water sports, bingo and domino games, and a variety of food and craft vendors--among other festivities! Saturday night mosey on over to the Cochran County Rodeo Arena for an exciting MYR KIDS Play Day!
