US ROUTE 66, the famous “Mother Road,” runs from state border to border in the Texas Panhandle—and right through the heart of Amarillo. And here on Amarillo’s Sixth Street, along Historic Route 66, there’s lots of history to discover and enjoy!
NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK IN THE TEXAS PLAINS TRAIL REGION
The 52-County Texas Plains Trail Region, a heritage tourism initiative of the Texas Historical Commission, kicks off its National Tourism Week celebration on 5/2 (get it?) in Amarillo’s Route 66 Historic District in cooperation with the Historic 6th on Route 66 Association, the Old Route 66 Association in Texas, Panhandle Tourism Marketing Council, and the Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council.
A DAY OF FAMILY FUN On Saturday, May 2, bring all your friends and family out to Sixth Street to find fascinating stories and fun facts while enjoying great shopping and antiquing, delicious dining, live music, and original art.
PUNCH YOUR PASPORT TO WIN PRIZES Simply download and print out your Hunt for History Passport—or pick one up from any participating Amarillo Route 66 business—and start solving the clues. Intriguing history clues point to destinations along Route 66. How many can YOU get right? Visit each destination for the solution and a stamp on your passport. At 5:02 pm May 2, we’ll check passports and award prizes at Amarillo’s Route 66 Store, 2723 SW 6th Ave.
